Jersey Late Season Blueberry

Jersey High-bush Late season Blueberry

Vaccinium corymbosum 'Jersey'

Jersey is an old-time variety that has been a favorite of home gardeners who want a late ripening blueberry with an extended season. It is very easy to grow. It will produce good crops of small to medium sized, juicy, sweet, flavorful, light blue berries, suitable for all uses. It ripens late in the season, starting in early August in Michigan and berries will sontinue for a month or so, up through the first frosts. Yields are not as large as other varieties. It makes a nice bush in the garden with glossy green leaves turning brilliant yellow in the fall.

A Little History

Jersey arrives by its name honestly, being introducted by the USDA in 1928 from its experiment station in New Jersey. The cross was made in 1916 and the plant was introduced to the commercial industry in 1928. Since then it has become very widely planted in most of the blueberry growing regions of the country where it has often become the leading late season varieity.
