Balaton® Tart Cherry
Balaton® Tart Cherry
Prunus cerasus 'Balaton®'
Balaton® Tart Cherry is an interesting tart cherry with more flavor and "body" than Montmorency. It is well flavored and is firmer and not as juicy as Montmorency. It makes a great dried tart cherry and is good for fresh eating and pies too. It ripens a week or more later than Montmorency.

Homeowner Growing and Maintenance TipsBalaton is more vigorous than Montmorency and blooms a little later. It is not quite as productive as Montmorency. We suggest planting it with other tart cherries as a little cross-pollination may help set more fruit, although it is considered self-fertile. The tree is less susceptible to bacterial leaf spot than Montmorency and it will hold its leaves much better through the summer.
