Grandma's Granny Apple Pandowdy

Grandma used to bake this for Thanksgiving every year because Grandpa and the family liked it so well. It was the perfect pie to follow a big turkey dinner. Granny Smith was the favorite apple to use, because it had justed ripened and was the freshest! When not in season, Grandma would use other tart apples that are available.

Grandma's Granny Apple Pandowdy

Serves: 8
Directions
Arrange apple slices in greased baking dish.

In saucepan, mix brown sugar, ¼ cup flour, the spices and ¼ tsp salt. Stir in water. Place over low heat, cook, stirring, until thickened. Stir in 2 Tbsp butter and lemon juice and pour over apples.

In a bowl, mix remaining flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in remaining butter until crumbly. With a fork, stir in enough milk to make a soft dough. Spoon onto apples, making 8 biscuits, dust with cinnamon and sugar.

Bake at 375 ° F for 40 minutes or until biscuits are browned and apples are tender.
Serving Information
Serve with ice cream or whip cream on top.

· dash nutmeg
· ¾ tsp salt
· 1 cup water
· 6 Tbsp butter
· 1 Tbsp lemon juice
· 2/3 cup milk
· 2 tsp baking powder

Grandpa used to love this one with vanilla ice cream on top!
